Thacker Killed While Stopping Robbery

A former Napoleon man, who was a Marine Corps veteran, dies while trying to thwart a robbery attempt at a store on Toledo’s south side. Tom Thacker, 53, of Maumee, was a customer in a Dollar General store on Heatherdowns Boulevard when Dale Slocum entered and attempted to rob the store. Slocum reportedly showed a gun, but it was later found to be a replica. Thacker and his partner, Brooke Clay tried to stop the robbery. Police say Thacker held Slocum down, but was fatally stabbed in the process. A Toledo police officer arrived on scene and shot Slocum, who later died at a Toledo hospital.
