Turnpike crash kills Springfield truck driver

A man from Springfield was killed on Thursday in a crash that closed both sides of the Ohio Turnpike.
He rear-ended a tanker carrying 3,000 gallons of liquid hydrogen, causing an explosion and fire. The fire burned for 19 hours until it burned itself out on Friday afternoon about 4 p.m., according to the State Highway Patrol.
The fire incinerated the victim’s truck and damaged the eastbound lanes of the turnpike. Gerkin Paving was tasked with repairing the damaged roadway, which consisted of about 100 feet.
