Update on assault victim in Toledo hospital

A follow up about the Defiance man who was found unconscious at Stefano’s Ristorante Sunday morning about 1 am. Police determined the man had been assaulted. He remains hospitalized in critical condition at last check at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. Police did not confirm the man’s name but Facebook posts listed him as 31-year-old Todd Wendell, and the hospital confirmed that.
Now according to Defiance County Proscutor Morris Murray, a suspect of continuing investigation is 31-year-old Roberto Martinez of Defiance. So far, he’s been charged with assault, before the extent of the victim’s injuries was known. Now Martinez’s case may go before a grand jury for consideration of more serious charges.
