Vance introduces bill that would allow states to secure their border with Mexico.

Ohio Sen. JD Vance has introduced a bill that would allow states to secure their border with Mexico. It comes on the heels of a U.S. Supreme Court decision, allowing the Border Patrol to cut razor wire on the Texas-Mexico border. The wire was installed by Texas Gov. Greg Abbot along the banks of the Rio Grande to deter illegal immigration. Some migrants have been injured by the sharp wire and the Justice Department has argued the barrier impedes the U.S. government’s ability to patrol the border, including coming to the aid of migrants in need of help. If passed, Vance’s State Border Security Act would prevent federal agents from dismantling barbed wire or other fencing erected by state governments within 25 miles of the border with Mexico.
