Vehicle Hit By Train — Alcohol Suspected

A con­fronta­tion with a freight train left two men lucky to escape with only minor injuries Sun­day morn­ing. The acci­dent hap­pened yes­ter­day just before 6AM in DeKalb County at County Road 47, when 21 year old David Albert of But­ler tried to cross the tracks as the cross­ing arms were acti­vated for an east­bound train. Albert appar­ently tried to beat the train but he didn’t make it. His 2004 Ford was struck in the right front cor­ner, caus­ing it to spin 90 degrees and then be shoved for about 50 feet. Albert com­plained of leg pain. His pas­sen­ger, 20-year-old Blake Mann of Auburn, was treated for minor lac­er­a­tions. Inves­ti­ga­tors say they believe alco­hol was a con­tribut­ing fac­tor. The crash remains under inves­ti­ga­tion today.
