Wanted non-compliant registered sex offender from Steuben County captured in Brown County, Texas

A wanted non-compliant registered sex offender from Steuben County has been captured in Brown County, Texas. On Friday just before 11:30 a.m. Eastern StandardTime, Samuel Brett Smith was located and apprehended without incident in Brown County, Texas by the United States Marshals Service North Texas Fugitive Task-force with the assistance of the Brown County Sheriff’s Office and the Brownwood City Marshal’s Office. The apprehension comes after a nearly 8 week joint fugitive investigation between the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service. An arrest warrant was issued for Smith back in December of 2016 alleging Smith failed to register as a sex or violent offender in Steuben County.
