A smoke detector saved the lives of four people on Sunday when their home in rural Defiance County went up in flames. The fire reported around 2:30 a.m. on Ohio 18 just east of New Bavaria Rd. destroyed the single-story, wood-frame home owned by Lynette Begley. According to a GoFundMe page set up for the family, two adults and two kids made it out alive. Three pets were saved, two cats perished in the fire. No word yet on what started the fire.
