Defiance County resident found to have contracted Zika virus

On Tuesday afternoon, the Defiance County Health Department reported that a Defiance County resident, who traveled in July to a country where the Zika virus is prevalent, has tested positive for the disease. Zika virus is primarily transmitted through the bite of an infected mosquito, although it can also be transmitted through sexual contact with someone who has the virus. Mosquitoes that carry the Zika virus are not usually found in northwest Ohio. More information, including travel advisories, can be found about the Zika virus at the Ohio Department of Health website at www.odh.ohio.gov/zika.
