BRYAN MAN SENTENCED IN STALKING AND EXPLOSIVES CASE

A Bryan man was sen­tenced Wednes­day to five years of com­mu­nity con­trol for plant­ing home­made bombs at the home of a Van Wert woman a year ago.

Ronald McBride was accused of blow­ing up some­thing and start­ing fires on the front yard of the woman’s home on Zook Road last Sep­tem­ber.

The woman said she first met the 43 year old McBride on a dat­ing web­site, and she said he was stalk­ing her.

McBride even­tu­ally admit­ted to mak­ing the devices in his barn and set­ting them in the woman’s yard.

With the sen­tence handed down Wednes­day, McBride avoided jail time thanks to a record free of any prior crim­i­nal con­vic­tions.

In addi­tion to the com­mu­nity con­trol, The Bryan Times reports that McBride must spend three years under intense super­vi­sion and 60 days on house arrest with an elec­tronic mon­i­tor. He is pro­hib­ited from enter­ing Van Wert County with­out per­mis­sion from his pro­ba­tion offi­cer and he was also ordered to pay court costs.
