Officials in Pioneer decide to shelve a proposal that would have stopped public comment on the plan to sell water from the area aquifer to other communities. Artesian of Pioneer, owned by Pioneer Mayor Ed Kidston, wants to drill into the aquifer to sell up to 14 million gallons of water a day to communities outside the area. The resolution would have suspended debate until the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency releases its findings on the matter.
…more on the aquifer…
Well testing is now underway in Fulton County…to see if the aquifer is a viable source of drinking water for a consortium of seven entities. In October, the Henry County Regional Water and Sewer District Board of Trustees approved an agreement with Artesian of Pioneer (AOP) to drill and test wells on behalf of the consortium. Officials say the drilling was done in three locations north and west of Fayette. The test drilling should end today.
