Local Scam Alert

A new scam in the Bryan area is being reported. Officials say the Chamber Office has received notice from Bryan Police on a scam that has been discovered involving the direct deposit of employee payroll checks. An employee reported that their bank had not received the employee’s direct deposit of their paycheck. The company’s payroll department had received a bogus email in the name of the employee, stating they wanted to change their direct deposit from their regular bank and have it deposited into a Green Dot debit card. The email further stated what Green Dot account and routing number to make the deposit. Officials are saying to double check any information concerning changing accounts before doing so.
