First responders are dispatched to a fatal three car crash in Swanton Township. Officials tell reporters a pickup, driven by Ryan Shanly was stopped in the northbound lane on County Road 2, near County Road C, after debris fell off of his vehicle. An SUV, driven by Gary Tippie, was stopped in the southbound lane on 2, to assist in picking up the debris. Officials say that’s when John Whaley, traveling northbound on 2 in his vehicle, hit the SUV before striking Shanly in the roadway. Whaley’s car then struck the pickup and overturned. Shanly was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he died. Tippie wasn’t hurt. Whaley received treatment at the scene for minor injuries. Alcohol does appear to be a factor in the crash.
