Sweethearts, are ready and on shelves for Valentine’s Day 2020, if only in a relatively limited capacity this year. The 118-year-old-brand was purchased by Spangler Candy Company from the now-defunct Necco in September 2018 and, since that time, Spangler leaders have been working toward this year’s romantic holiday as their goal for candy’s production. To get the brand ready, Spangler dismantled and moved machinery from Necco’s shuttered plant. 60 truckloads in all. The company worked through Valentine’s Day 2019, which was too close to Spangler’s purchase of the brand to be a viable goal for production.
