The Ohio Department of Job and Family Services has mailed out more than 1.7 million 1099 tax forms, to recoup income from unemployment benefits. But some Williams County residents are finding out for the first time that their identities may have been stolen and used by scammers to file for fraudulent claims during the COVID-19 pandemic. Sheriff’s deputies responded to three such complaints in Edon and a fourth in Bryan Monday morning. On Tuesday, they received another complaint from Edon and two more from Bryan.
