Bryan City Council on Monday unanimously approved a bid for trash collection in the city, despite the objections of a handful of residents who spoke against the proposal. The city has cited increased costs of everything from dumping fees to vehicle maintenance, along with the inability to find workers willing and able to do the work, as reasons to pursue a contract with a private company for trash services. Officials had said monthly rates would have to be raised at least $10 from the currently $25.50 to keep municipal pick-up viable.
