Injury Accident On The 24

A Defiance man is badly hurt on U.S. 24…west of the city…after he is hit by a semi after getting out of his vehicle, following a crash. David Morton, 52, was taken to an area hospital in serious condition. Officials say…Morton was eastbound on 24, between Krouse Road and Paulding County Road 143…when he lost control of his vehicle and drove off the right side of the road…into some trees. He then exited his vehicle and walked onto the roadway. That’s when he was struck by the big rig, driven by Dennis Elliott, 35, of Hoyleton, Ill. The highway was shut down for about 90 minutes. Troopers believe drugs and alcohol were not a factor. The investigation continues.
