DORA Stays

County commissioners authorize extending the county’s Designated Outdoor Refreshment Area agreement with the city of Bryan on an indefinite basis. It allows customers to purchase alcoholic beverages at participating downtown retailers and carry and consume that beverage in the designated area, generally around the downtown square. Signage is in place to let patrons know the boundaries of the DORA. The county and city of Bryan have an agreement that alcohol is banned on the courthouse lawn, which is county property, but is allowable on the sidewalks around the courthouse. The commissioners’ action Monday extends that agreement indefinitely, with the provision that the DORA is suspended during the annual Bryan Jubilee.
