Levy Passes

Bryan voters approve a half percent replacement levy for streets and sewers in the city…by 53 to 46%. The levy takes effect on or after June 1, 2023, for nine and a half years, ending Dec. 31, 2032. The levy began in 1986 to fund the city’s wastewater plant, then streets and sewers were added as a continuing part of the levy. Funding to retire the police and fire department debt was added to the levy the third and fourth times it was approved. The levy has been renewed four times over the past 36 years, until May 3, when it was rejected by 27 votes. That rejection followed a controversial move by the city to privatize trash pickup in Bryan. The levy has brought in a little more than $40 million dollars for streets and sewers.
