Angola Man Jailed Following Home Invasion And Gunfire

An Angola man is behind bars today at the DeKalb County Jail, without bond, after he allegedly exchanged gunfire with an off duty Kendallville Police Officer Tuesday night. 21-year-old Tyler Gaiski is now facing felony charges of attempted murder, burglary and torturing an animal. It all began when DeKalb County Communications got a call about a breaking and entering in progress from a man who said his parents were out of town and that he had stopped by their home to feed their dog. A neighbor, who also just happens to be a Kendallville Police officer was called by the man also. That officer saw a car backed up to the house with a man sitting in the drivers seat. When he shined a flashlight on the guy and identified himself, and told the driver to show his hands, the man pointed a gun at him and began shooting. The officer returned fire as he quickly took cover along with the man who reported it all. The other guy sped off, but drove off of West County Line Road, where the vehicle rolled over, yet he still managed to escape. K-9 units were called in, and Gaiski was found and taken into custody. A Labrador Retriever was killed during the home invasion.
