Cock Fight Busted

The Ful­ton County Sheriff’s Office says 52 peo­ple were arrested, and 72 chick­ens were res­cued Sun­day morn­ing dur­ing an inves­ti­ga­tion into sus­pi­cious activ­ity on Ful­ton County Road N when offi­cers dis­cov­ered a cock fight­ing ring there.

Deputies found 72 chick­ens, all roost­ers, all with razor-sharp spurs tied to their feet.

Of the 52 peo­ple charged, 26 are from Indi­ana and 17 from Michi­gan. The other nine were Ohio res­i­dents from Delta, Swan­ton, Napoleon, Oak­wood, Con­ti­nen­tal, Hol­land, Lyons and Weston.

One of the roost­ers was so seri­ously injured from a fight just before deputies arrived and broke it up, that it will likely have to be euth­a­nized. The oth­ers are being held until they can be released through the local humane societies.
