DEFIANCE RED CROSS IN DANGER OF CLOSING

The American Red Cross office in Defiance County may be closing.

It’s due to low local fundraising.

The county office at 1220 S. Clinton St. in Defiance is under the Toledo regional office, which covers 16 counties. County offices in Napoleon, Bryan, Wauseon and Ottawa are also affiliates of the Toledo office.

The Defiance office was expected to raise $60,000 in local funds this fiscal year, which ends June 30.

Right now they are standing at only $47,000.

Officials say that local disaster relief efforts would continue if the county office is closed, but another out of area office probably wouldn’t be able to do the extra one-on-one work.

A fundraiser called “Bash*43512″ is planned for Saturday, May 11 at the UAW Local 211 hall in Defiance.

Admission is $5 at the door and additional donations will be accepted. For more information or to make a donation, call 419–782-0136 or send a check payable to American Red Cross of Defiance County, 1220 S. Clinton St., Defiance, Ohio 43512.
