Falling Tree Leads to Fatal Wood Co. Wreck

A tragic acci­dent yes­ter­day after­noon in Wood County killed a dri­ver and sent the vehicle’s pas­sen­ger to the hos­pi­tal. 57-year-old Almeda Cou­ture of Toledo died when a tree fell on her SUV that was trav­el­ing south on Ton­to­gany Creek Road. The vehi­cle careened off the road­way, strik­ing a mail­box and a util­ity pole. Cou­ture was pro­nounced dead at the scene while a pas­sen­ger was trans­ported to Wood County Hos­pi­tal with non-life threatening-injuries. The inci­dent is still under investigation.
