Freemont Student Killed In Tree Cutting Accident

A Fre­mont High School stu­dent died Tues­day night at Parkview Regional Med­ical Cen­ter from injuries he suf­fered in a tree cut­ting acci­dent. 16-year-old Colin Book, accord­ing to the coroner’s report, died from blunt force trauma. The acci­dent hap­pened around 4:40PM Tues­day near St. Paul’s Catholic Chapel. Book was part of a tree crew. When res­cue crews arrived, he was unre­spon­sive. Book was flown from the scene of the acci­dent to the hos­pi­tal, where he later died. The Steuben County Sheriff’s Depart­ment con­tin­ues to inves­ti­gate, and Fre­mont Schools are pro­vid­ing coun­sel­ing sup­port for griev­ing stu­dents and staff.
