In West Unity on Friday, it’s the beginning of the annual Gathering in Unity Days, running Friday and Saturday, and featuring antique tractors, tractor pulls, a parade, along with crafts, food and vendors. It’s all happening at Memorial Park, and is sponsored by the West Unity Area Chamber of Commerce, and the Unity Antique Power Club. Events kick off Friday afternoon at 5 with a chicken barbecue at the shelter house, along with live music by Danny and the Back Up Band. The garden tractor pulls are at 6 p.m. Friday, followed by the ninth annual Miss West Unity Pageant at 7 p.m. Friday at Hilltop High School. Saturday’s events begin with a pancake and sausage breakfast from 7–10 a.m. at the shelter house, followed by the antique tractor show and pull. One big… literally, thing this year is a 1978 Hydra Wide plow measuring 40 feet long and weighing 36,000 pounds. It was the only one built, and will be pulled by a 1980 550-horsepower tractor. Both are owned by Daren Meyers of West Unity. The American Legion Riders are sponsoring a poker run on Saturday. There will be a cornhole tournament at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
