Heating Bills Explained

After getting deluged with questions and complaints from customers about higher-than-usual utility bills, Bryan Municipal Utilities worked to explain the issue at this week’s Bryan Board of Public Affairs meeting. Utility officials say they found two primary causes for the higher bills. The biggest cause was the cold weather. Another factor? Some customers’ billing periods were longer than usual last month, up to 37 days in some cases. Officials noted the board approved an electric rate change in September 2017 that amounted to a slight decrease in rates for residential users.
