Montpelier has received a $2.3 million “principal forgiveness” award

The village of Montpelier has received a $2.3 million “principal forgiveness” award to be put toward a wastewater treatment plant upgrade, Montpelier Village Manager Kevin Brooks told village council on Monday. Principal forgiveness is similar to a grant, but has tighter deadlines. Brooks state they are working with three engineering firms and will have a proposal for (the council) at the Nov. 28 meeting. Brooks added that he wants to get the project started in March 2017. Separately, Brooks informed members that there are seven residents of the community who work for Republic Services, the main competitor of Archbold Refuse Service (ARS). The village recently contracted with ARS for trash removal and the contract called for ARS to provide services for the entire village.
