Old DHS Building May Avoid Wrecking Ball

Defiance’s former high school may get a new lease on life. Officials discussed a proposal that might help City Hall acquire the old school, built in 1918, from the Board of Education. The building was replaced when the new building opened in January 2018. Since then, school officials have held off on demolition to consider proposals to repurpose it. So, now a motion to bring forward an ordinance, allowing the city administrator to enter into negotiations with the Defiance City Board of Education to acquire the property is now on the table. It will be considered next week.
