Red Nose Day is coming. It’s this Thursday, and it’s designed to raise money for children and young people living in poverty. Corporate partners Walgreens and M&M’s stand behind the efforts to raise money Thursday, which will be donated to 12 charities that benefit young people. Locally, students at Holy Cross Catholic School in Defiance will be involved with activities such as selling jeans passes today for $1, which will allow students to wear jeans on Thursday instead of their regular uniform. Tuesday is crazy make-up day, where for 50 cents a student can have his/her face painted in the form of some crazy shape. Wednesday — Students will be selling “red” items during the day. Items can include red stickers, red pencils, red cookies, red candy, red drinks, etc. Thursday — Students in grades 6–8 will wear the red noses purchased from Walgreens. Meanwhile, students in every grade are sponsoring a rocking marathon, where they get sponsors to pay them so they can rock in a rocking chair in their classroom at 15-minute intervals. The point is make sure the students get enough sponsorship to keep their classroom’s rocking chair rocking during the school day. To help sponsor a student at Holy Cross for the rocking marathon, call 419–784-2021. For more information about Red Nose Day, go to www.rednoseday.org.
