A Bryan man who was already in deep trouble with the law for past offenses, learned on Wednesday that he will be spending a long, long time behind bars. 28 year old Richard Mojica, a twice convicted rapist, was sentenced Wednesday in Williams County Court, to a total of 21 years in prison. The sentence was far in excess of what had been recommended by both the defense and the prosecution, which was eight years behind bars. Although he previously pleaded guilty in the most recent case, Mojica yesterday denied that he raped the 18 year old victim. Yesterday’s court appearance wasn’t his first. Back in 2005, Mojica was convicted in Henry County of raping a 15 year old girl, when he claimed to be an undercover officer, and threatened to arrest the underage girl, who had been drinking, unless she had sex with him. She declined, so Mojica put a knife to her throat and then raped her. In the latest case, Mojica raped the 18 year old girl on the night of her high school graduation in a way that prosecutors said closely mirrored his earlier crime. When Mojica is finally released from prison, he will have to spend another five years on post-release control and will also be required to register as a Tier III sex offender for life.
