There are enough legitimate signatures on a proposed Defiance charter amendment that would forbid data centers inside the municipal limits. After reviewing the most recent petition, the Defiance County Board of Elections discovered 270 legitimate signatures-much more than the required 225. The petition, which was first submitted by a three-person committee opposed to data centers, is legally returned to the city finance office. The city will have until September 4 to decide on its legitimacy and ballot language.
